Design is more than what you see.

HEY, I AM JULIA (YOU-LIA) IT IS NICE TO MEET YOU.

I was born and raised in a small town in the Black Forest in Germany, and I have loved two things ever since I was a teenager — design and the human brain. I followed my passion for design and studied Interior Architecture in Hamburg and spent my life throughout my teenage years inside European architecture before crossing the Atlantic.

Today I live between New York and Charlotte, NC, where I lead a team of architects and designers. We design the leading healthcare spaces across the world.

I’ve never experienced the world like most. I have SPS (Sensory Processing Sensitivity). Which means, my nervous system picks up every detail around me — light temperature, background noise, materials that don't feel right, proportions that feel off balance. For most of my life I thought my nervous system was working against me. Until I realized, it's actually my superpower.

The science has been clear for forty years. The rooms we build affect us — how we feel, how we think, how we recover — whether we notice or not. My job is to translate that science into the spaces we inhabit.

On my podcast Design.Unseen I interview voices in neuroscience, healthcare, wellness and longevity and. I speak about neuroarchitecture — the field where design, psychology, and neuroscience meet.
